NICK'S FINS
COMMISSIONED ITEM - SOLD
This special work of art was commissioned by a group of pilots as a retirement gift for Capt. Nick Anderson and was inspired by some of the aircraft he enjoyed flying during his career. From top left to bottom right are three scale replica aircraft tail fins:
RAF F4 Phantom XV582 of 43 Squadron, Scotland early 1980s.
RAAF F18A Hornet A21-21 of 77 Squadron, Australia late 1980s.
Virgin Atlantic Airbus A340-600 G-VRED Scarlet Lady, UK 2019.
The fins were created from 0.5mm aluminium, shaped and engraved with panel lines and some rivet detail. Stainless steel and acrylic were used to replicate lights and aerials. They were then hand-painted with enamels and metallic acrylic. They are mounted using four clear 60mm acrylic tubes and eight 50x10mm rubber washers onto a gloss white melamine board with black melamine edging and a dedication printed on vinyl. From bottom right to top left, each fin is further away from the viewer, representing travel back in time through Nick's incredible aviation career. Each fin is hand engraved on the back with its title and the artists signature. The main board has an aluminium panel engraved with the title and artists signature, fixed with screws to the reverse. This is a truly unique andpersonal gift that will bring back many happy memories to its new owner.
